Thread: Dutch Woman With Dementia Euthanized Against Her Will.

    I've experienced firsthand, 2 people with severe dementia. In both cases, they were lovingly cared for by their daughter. It was horrific toward the end. They had lost all humanity. Urinating and defecating where they stood. Eating any object within reach. Becoming violent to others, and even harming themselves. Resisting any attempts to bathe, dress, and feed them. It is an insidious condition, requiring 24/7 supervision. Most people are ill-equipped to deal with such care, which is why they are often put in professional care.

    I don't have the answers for this. I can only say that those people who found the strength and or means to care for these people until the end, are true saints. I do not think I could ever approve of euthanasia, but there has to be another way.

    “The 74-year-old woman had renewed her living will about a year before she died, writing that she wanted to be euthanized ‘whenever I think the time is right.’ Later, the patient said several times in response to being asked if she wanted to die: ‘But not just now, it's not so bad yet!’ according to a report from the Dutch regional euthanasia review committee.”


    If you don't practice...you'll sound like it. And, if you don't tune, your life will sound like it, too. Listen to the intervals. That's where it all hides from you.....

    So, they have a regional euthanasia review committee. Sounds like a death panel to me.

    Debating which is the more dignified ending is not the same as actually doing it. The worst part about dementia is we donít know whatís going on in the patients mind. With my grandmother, I often wondered how terrifying it must be to not know who anyone is. Everyone is a stranger.

    This is only one reason why I am concerned with more Government intrusion in healthcare. Krugman of the New York Times admitted Death Panels will happen and should happen to save money.

    Baby's are killed with impunity so why not the elderly ? In another 20 years the college kids will pass a law killing all up to 18 and everyone after 22 .

    First, I never said anything in support of abortion. Second, contrary to the efforts of some, the two are not the same. Especially in this case where the woman put in her living will that she wanted to be euthanized instead of suffering.
