I told someone in junior high that I was in a bowling league. He scoffed at the notion and told me "you don't play bowling". I said, "you are right, I bowl."

Another thing that makes bowling more exciting than golf is that frames can be decided in seconds, rather than minutes. This is especially true if both players roll strikes, or if one rolls a strike and the other either converts a one pin spare or misses!

Something else cool about bowling. This clip is great to watch just for the awesome competition between Aulby and Williams, but take a close look at where the bowlers are sitting. if you didn't know that they were the people competing, you might confuse them for members of the audience. The fans and the pros are that close, and the fans have so much respect for the bowlers that they don't bother them!

I understand that NASCAR and NHRA drivers have a close rapport with their fans, but not during competition.

The legends of bowling are human too. Pete Weber throws a gutter ball and gets just six pins on a spare attempt.

I was never a good bowler. In the youth league I bowled an average of maybe 78 for 3 games. My best game which held for almost 25 years was a 148 that I miraculously bowled when I was 13 in 1989.

I beat it in 2012 with a 173, but the most memorable game for me was back when I was 13 and rolled a ball on lane 20 and it ended up on lane 21. I guttered too.

What most recreational bowlers don't know is that the pros are up against oil patterns that make it very difficult to strike. in contrast, your typical bowling alley that you might head to on a Friday night encourages strikes, because they don't want to lose your business.

I was never taught about oil patterns in the youth league, and I know now that it was because the lanes were set up for me to succeed. I still failed.

Bowling could be made more interesting if the Democratic candidates head shots were painted on the pins.
