It's time to break your Google addiction, starting with Brin's flagship product, the search engine. As with all addictions, cessation starts by slow withdrawal. Here are the competition I have been researching:

https://gibiru.com/ ~ I like this engine. It gives good results. Downside is when I close it my 'self-destructing cookies' addon reports that all google cookies have been cleared. May not be as private as is claimed. Requires further research.

DuckDuckGo — Privacy, simplified. ~ Decent search results, slightly better than startpage; slightly below gibiru, yippy & qwant. It has been reported to be biased, but I could not find anything in my tests.

Search the Web ~ Mixed results. When I typed in 'thepoliticsforums' it gave it as fourth link down. Same for voat. Infowars & bitchute got top billing. I was unable to stump it using difficult search terms like 'shinkan', vairagya, etc.

Swisscows die datensichere Suchmaschine aus der Schweiz. Keine Überwachung. Keine Datenspeicherung. ~ Mixed search results, bit hit or miss. When I searched 'thepoliticsforums', it gave the link second (under 'thepoliticalforums.com').

Yippy, powered by IBM Watson ~ Good search results. I see no commie-taint nor anti-conservative bias. Passed all tests.

Qwant ~ Good search results. I see no commie-taint nor anti-conservative bias. Passed all tests.

Startpage.com - The world's most private search engine ~ Decent search results, a bit behind yippy & qwant, but barely. I see no commie-taint nor anti-conservative bias. Passed all tests.

Okay, the above was the good, so here's the bad:

https://www.discretesearch.com/ ~ When I typed in 'thepoliticsforums' it did give this link...buried under ten others. Same BS for voat. It did give 'infowars' & 'bitchute' at first place. Mixed results, but my impression is its socialist-tainted, maybe not as much as Google or Yahoo, but too much to be useful. Avoid.

https://www.searchencrypt.com/ ~ Same exact results as 'discretesearch'! I suspect the same site under different names. Avoid!

For now, my picks are yippy, qwant, and gibiru as replacements for Google and Yahoo. Begin using Google and Yahoo a little less, and try using an alternate search engine a little more. Wean yourself off the Big Bro wannabes, restrict their data collection, and send them a message...they know every time you fart, trust me, the message will be delivered!

Startpage is supposed to be an anonymous front for a google search, it takes your search, removes identifiable data, submits the search to Google, strips the BS from the result, and send you the clean search. You get a google search without the tracking.

I used Startpage and recently ran some new political bias tests and was not impressed with the results. My usual searches don't involve politics. I went back to DuckDuckGo. On the other hand, I still use an Android (Google) phone. I'll never buy Apple phones.

This is true, but not sure if it has any other benefits...as in does it defeat Google censorship, and search results tampering?

Just curious, Tinhatter, but what cell phone do you use? I use Android (Google).

I have never touched a pocketphone, and after having researched the hell out of it, I can absolutely guarantee I never will. I briefly flirted with the idea of throwaway 'burner' phones a couple years ago. While these are safer than the sort most have superglued to their hand, it's still not safe. No pocketphone is! Last year on the street corners of Berserkely and Frisco there were tent-stands hawking free phones and free phone service with long lines of blithering idiots anxious to sign up....oblivious to what this really meant, and its true hidden cost(s). Like The Fool in the Tarot deck, about to walk off the cliff because he is too busy staring up at all them pretty clouds!
