    Multiple litter boxes.

I have recently adopted two cats. My screen name is the same as one cat, Piru.

These cats have two food and water dishes which they share. They groom each other and exhibit no conflict. They even share a litter box.

Their box was bought at PetSmart and is standard plastic. I found a throwaway cardboard box tonight and brought it home, lined it with a plastic bag, filled it with litter, and let the cats "find" it.

They have not used the new box yet. I looked up "ideal number of litter boxes for multiple cats and found that for two cats, I should have three boxes.

My question is if this recommendation is sound, or is some "cat whisperer" making money for Petco and PetSmart by guilting cat owners into having lots of litter boxes?

If you don't practice...you'll sound like it. And, if you don't tune, your life will sound like it, too. Listen to the intervals. That's where it all hides from you.....

If they had no problem sharing a litter box, then why add more? Just scoop the one they share on a daily basis and you are good. No need to complicate it.

I will watch what they do. If they don't use the second box which is as far from their roaming area as you can get, I will revert to one box. I don't want to scoop two boxes, but I also want the cats to be happy.

i believe the cheap litter from china causes cancer to the feet of the cats, which then spreads to their stomachs. oil-dri makes theirs from clay. the chinks prolly make theirs from wood formaldahyde.
