NYT Chief outlines coverage shift: From Trump-Russia to Trump racism

New York Times chief outlines coverage shift: From Trump-Russia to Trump racism

Dean Baquet, the executive editor of the New York Times, said recently that, after the Mueller report, the paper has to shift the focus of its coverage from the Trump-Russia affair to the president's alleged racism. Baquet made the remarks at an employee town hall Monday. A recording was leaked to Slate, which published a transcript Thursday.

But then came the Mueller report, with special counsel Robert Mueller failing to establish that the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with Russia to fix the 2016 election. "The day Bob Mueller walked off that witness stand, two things happened," Baquet continued. "Our readers who want Donald Trump to go away suddenly thought, 'Holy shit, Bob Mueller is not going to do it.' And Donald Trump got a little emboldened politically, I think. Because, you know, for obvious reasons. And I think that the story changed. A lot of the stuff we're talking about started to emerge like six or seven weeks ago. We're a little tiny bit flat-footed. I mean, that's what happens when a story looks a certain way for two years. Right?"

Baquet used the gentlest terms possible — "the story changed" — but the fact is, the conspiracy-coordination allegation the Times had devoted itself to pursuing turned out to be false. Beyond that, Democrats on Capitol Hill struggled to press an obstruction case against the president. The Trump-Russia hole came up dry.

Now, Baquet continued, "I think that we've got to change." The Times must "write more deeply about the country, race, and other divisions."

"I mean, the vision for coverage for the next two years is what I talked about earlier: How do we cover a guy who makes these kinds of remarks?" Baquet said. "How do we cover the world's reaction to him? How do we do that while continuing to cover his policies? How do we cover America, that's become so divided by Donald Trump?"

our media cannot be trusted. and not for a long time. The gloves are off. Their agenda unveiled. They are not news or journalism or anything you want to call it. They're a propaganda machine of the deep state and the globalist agenda. They are NOT American. They're Anti-American. They aren't even afraid to show what they are anymore.

I'm still waiting for them to bring up something like "Trump wore a suit to his first grade school pictures" & that proves (fill in the blank). My God the left is crazy & each time I think they can't get worse, they do.

When a newspaper changes its headlines because it does not feel aggressive enough, it pretty much tells you everything you need to know.

or the headline is the complete opposite of what is in the body of the article. that happens ALL the time. They know their own supporters don't read the article. The headline and maybe the first paragraph and that is it.

Clearly these "news" outlets are heavily subsidized by leftist money from parent organizations and others. Their ratings and ad revenues can't keep them afloat. So they become shills for the democrats and leftist organizations, the people financing their operations. Partisan, biased and totally untrustworthy. Trump will come and go, but the damage places like the NY Times, CNN, The Washington Post, MSNBC have done to themselves is irreparable.

So the "Times" has made it it's mission to divide the citizens of our country? Fuck that shit! That's treason.

Wow, just wow...I do not have any words right now.

How much actual pull does a newspaper have in swaying the minds and hearts of Independents and Libertarian Centrists today, in 2019--->, compared to other modern, electronic, media sources?

IMHO, I know that the NYT has an online edition, but most swing-voter consumers of news turn to more social media oriented news sources, and less to the electronic decendents of old PaperMedia.

I could be wrong, and I'm looking now for political polls and surveys which might shed light on the Realivance of the NYT to the Swing-Vote.

I believe that the NYT is probably important in motivating the Radical-Left Base for voter turn out, as well as emboldening the Fraud-Vote-"Base", for taking the risk to vote multiple times...

But it seems to me, the real import of the OP event, is showing that since the El Paso shooting, the wider, orchestrated political tactic, is painting Trump and his voters as "Racists".

Oh, that's definitely the meme now, until that fails, and they have to cook up another one.
