Me, I do a light sprinkle of sugar and let them sit for about 2 hours, then add in the heavy cream (but I do not like them overly sweet). After that let them sit in the cream for a few hours to overnight and then eat.
I don't like them overly sweet either but I know what you mean about creating the syrup. And OHHHhhhhh yes........I AM trying that. Sounds heavenly.

We used to heat up the cherries that come with a thick syrup and put the warmed cherries over vanilla ice cream. That's easy and good too.

Every go to the Strawberry festival up in Plant city? It's a big deal for like 11 days.
Poteet, Texas has a Strawberry Festival every year.........when I was young and in the band I marched in the parade there and they gave us free strawberry shortcake afterwards. Well worth it.

When I was in Ohio I grew peppers, Cubanelle and Banana. Used the majority of them to make stuffed peppers, so good! Oh, a few jalapenos.

I drink iced tea every morning instead of hot coffee. I purchase the Publix iced tea (unsweetened with dark blue cap) as it is the best tasting I have found. It is always fresh tasting where many others seem to taste old even after a fresh opening.

Cucumber and onion salad in vinegar and water, watermelon, cherries, plums, peaches are some of my favorites. Canned fruit is a little cheaper this time of year because of all of the fresh fruit that is available so I also tend to stock up on canned fruit for the winter. I'll eat a can of peaches or pears for breakfast during the cold months.
Humble yourself, for there is an enormous change coming.
