I was always partial to the baked ones they call "Old-Fashioned." With the split top of the ring. I believe that when they're done right, by a bakery, not a mass merchandiser, they're fried in a different oil...maybe lard.

Not the glazed, but either no coating or a maple-flavoured icing. New York, which, even in the hinterlands of Buffalo, far from the City...fancied itself a doughnut elite centre.

I've had a few Krispy Kreme (or is it Crispy Cream?) before health forbade me; and they're not bad, just un-subtle. Overdone. A rustic's doughnut...or, I guess I should say, donut.
Yes, I rely on spell-check. I don't remember if spell check flagged my post or I just remembered that there was more then one spelling for the word.

The baked ones, old fashioned, are extremely dense more like a heavy cake than a doughnut. I think of donuts as light and fluffy.

It is Krispy Kreme. They are great when fresh out of the oil, but lose their appeal quickly. The reason Krispy Kreme has a sign that announces when the fresh ones are coming out

Honestly, I eat donuts once or twice a year so I am definitely not an expert. Plus, my favorite doughnut is what most people consider to be the most boring, the glazed.

Oh, and to make it even worse... If you add a smear of butter on a glazed donut (or any glazed pastry, think bear claws) it makes it way worse for you and way more tasty

I guess I should have put a smiley-face on my previous post.

But that would be unsubtle. Rustic.

I was only a golf-course laborer and snowplow driver in New York...but you could say I was a classy laborer and snowplow driver. Or, I should say, a snow-plough operator and golf-course labourer. In the Empire State.

I read Playboy for the articles...and I enjoyed the subtle flavour of New-York style doughnuts. On my way to my employ.

I agree. I "spend" my carb limit on barbecued beans, Texas-style.

Lemon filled or, the glazed with chocolate icing, are my favorites.

They used to sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts in the 66 gas station/convenient store on I-40 10 miles or so from Albuquerque, we'd stop when heading that way......they now sell Dunkin donuts....I haven't had a donut since I cut back on carbs and sugar.

    Yep...
If you don't practice...you'll sound like it. And, if you don't tune, your life will sound like it, too. Listen to the intervals. That's where it all hides from you.....
