    Love of country

Question: If a male friend were to state, "I really would love my wife, if only she would lose 40 pounds, become less of a nag, and do the housework more often," would you conclude that he really does love his wife? Or not?

Likewise: If a person were to state, "I really would love this country, if only it would live up to the ideals (or values) contained in the Constitution," would you conclude that he really does this country, as it currently exists? Or merely that he is in love with some idealized image of this country?

It does seem like a reasonable question...

With the way things have gone in this country over the past 20 years or so I would have to claim that I'm in love with the idea of this country and pretty displeased about what it has become. While I will concede that we were never a 'perfect' country at least we used to try.

I think Trump shares my opinion. I quite often ask, "Remember when this used to be America?" and I see that same attitude in him.
    Personal Stats

Age- Too old to do what I remember I could do
    Race- Used to
Sex- Well, yeah, whenever I can
    Religion- Pastafarian, non-practicing
Political preference- Amused. Just plain amused
Why I don't post more- Too busy shaking my head and face palming

How about if he said, "I really would love my wife if she'd quit screwing all the guys she works with." Would you conclude that he doesn't love his wife and only loves some idealized image of his wife?

The country I love is America. That is not the same thing as the U.S. I do not love New York or California or Portland, Chicago, or Austin, Texas. I love the state my kids grew up in but once the California Plague had eaten it away I left.

You're idea of love is a lot like the woman who drunken lout of a husband beats her every Saturday but she won't do anything because she "loves" him. I dealt with an underage girl getting screwed by her stepdad and her mother shrugged and said, "Someone has to do it. Why should it always be me?" And, the daughter should "honor" this mother? I don't think so.

I do not love the Democrat Party. I don't love the dysfunctional Democrat states and cities. I don't love legislatures that pass laws to encourage election fraud and ignore the Constitution.

I'm appalled that neither the liberals nor the conservatives in the U.S. recognize a distinction between U.S. citizens and Americans. I think most U.S. citizens today are not Americans and I meet many Americans who aren't U.S. citizens.

Rep. Tlaib, President Obama, and Joy Behar were all born in the U.S. and are U.S. citizens but not Americans. Melania Trump and Sherrie Murray were not born in the U.S., are naturalized citizens but I consider them Americans.

    This is a reasonable question.

However, in order for the analogy to work, it must assume that the US has been acting in a blatantly immoral and evil way--at least, prior to the arrival of Donald Trump.

And I simply do not agree with the premise.

THIS is what Americans think...and often say.

If you don't love this country. LEAVE IT. FInd someplace better and DON"T COME BACK.

If you don't love this country, Don't even come here in the first place. If you think America is awful, stay where you are. We don't need you or want you here to change America to suit yourself.

If you have no intention of becoming an America Loving American, working for and supporting your own family, THEN DON"T COME HERE.

If any changing needs doing...and there is room for that, WE WILL DO IT. WE don't need YOU to bring in your socialist, Marxist, communist, islamicist view. WE WILL DO IT.

Now I know this is a difficult concept and even harder to put into words for democrats so I won't bother...but for you Republicans. How about growing a spine? LISTEN to your constituents. STOP CARING for yourself first rather than the people you took an oath to do right by. Matter of fact, if you can't put your personal desires after the people you swore to do right by, YOU CAN LEAVE TOO. And i'd really APPRECIATE IT if you stop bringing in OUR ENEMY. and then supporting their hate speech!!

I don't care if you were born here or came here yesterday. If you don't like it...LOVE IT... THEN LEAVE.

Sarah Sanders doesn't often mop the White House Press Corp Floor...but when she does, she uses Jim Acosta.

There is no American free press. They're bought and paid for.

The Devil whispered in Trumps ear and said,
"you're not strong enough to withstand the storm".
President Trump whispered back,"I am The Storm"!

Some people don't make a distinction between America and the U.S.

I do. America is found all over the country but mostly in the parts the liberals hate and call "fly-over country". The U.S. is based in Washington, DC, where there are very few Americans and the wealthy elites on both coasts that Washington caters to.

I grew up in the deep South, respecting America and Americans and hating what was being done to black people. One can love America without loving all that Americans do.

I love the U.S.A, and will never stop loving her. Without reservation.

I believe in her greatness. I believe in her ability to do good. I believe, with all my heart, that the USA is special, and that the more we stand up for her, the more she will be protected. And admired, for that matter.
