Nexstar & DirectV channel losses over money dispute

I don't care which one of them is at fault. I'm considering going back to over the air tv and move away for tv as entertainment altogether. I'm certainly tired of paying for tv. It's not worth it anymore.

Is the over the air equipment cheap? How is the picture?

The box isn't bad. You can buy new digital boxes that actually have DVR's and then have a USB port to so that if you wanted to download movies put them on a USB drive you could watch those movies. I know sharing sites you can download. Depends on what format the boxes will play.

However I have been using APPS to watch on my phone.

BVOVN TV, Pluto TV, BlazeTV, CBN, TBN

You can then stream these to a smart tv apparently.

"over the air" tv [antenna] is the purest form of high definition tv you can get. the cable/dish etc. grab the same signal the home antenna does but compresses it and then re configures it losing pixels [quality] in the process.

a AMPLIFIED tv antenna, flat or otherwise, is around $40-$60 bucks and requires only an antenna/coax] input plus the power adapter to amplify the signal.

key word AMPLIFIED..its got to have a power cord/adapter.
those cheap ones ad. on tv for 20 bucks are NOT amplified.

you simply CANNOT get a better picture quality than a home antenna.
the problem is your location as it pertains to the transmission towers...the more obstructions, [mountains, valleys, buildings etc] the fewer channels you may receive, but the quality of those you do is unsurpassed.

i get 82 channels from my antenna, and like the cable dish etc. about 30 or so are worth watching...[not interested in shopping/religious/foreign language etc.]

connected to my laptop via hdmi cable i stream live/recorded tv to my flat screen and combined i never pay for movies/tv/local channels and havent for many years.

an inexpensive recorder will record whatever you want.

If you want to try it out Trinnity and your handy , there are plenty of utube videos out there that show you how to build your own with stuff in your garage . I'm going to attempt it to make sure I can grab over the air signals from the city before I spend the money for a respectable looking one on the roof . The main thing is to have the correct length of copper wire for the signal . That sure can be bought at Home depot for a few bucks or strip out some 12 gauge electrical if you have a piece . The rest is scrap boards and screws and you tv cable and your going to get Crystal clear tv if you face it right .

I'm dropping cable thurs and going over the air , Wal-Mart has a good antennae for less than $100 . I'm paying over $200 a month and I've had it with them .
Who goes to a restaurant and eats only what the chef wants to cook while paying him a car payment !

We have Suddenlink cable & I have to say that I like it & think that it's a fair value. I'm paying about $50 more per month than my step father was paying for cable & dish & I get unlimited phone, almost unlimited internet (I think I get about 22 hours per day) & a pretty good choice of tv stations plus TIVO & 2 tv outlets.

Oh & I'll say after dealing with Dish network for 4 FRICKEN months trying to sort the bill out, I wouldn't use them if they were the last provider on earth. I finally ended up giving them an extra $100 that HE DIDN'T OWE, rather than the $500 they wanted. Pure hell dealing with those folks.

I pay about 8 dollars a month for a VPN and torrent whatever I want to watch, movies, TV shows, even video games (although I do buy the ones that good and I play, gotta make sure the companies I like can make more).

I figure that over my lifetime of buying movies that were bad, music that sucked (one good song on the album, the rest crap) and bad video games, it is my turn to get back from them.

I did pay for Netflix to support them until they started adding a bunch of anti-Trump crap, then I stopped paying them.
