Supplements barely do anything for your health

I quit take them a couple of years ago, realizing they were just a waste of my $$$.
Some 34% of adults take supplements every day - driving a market that has grown 6% in five years is now worth an annual $37 billion globally
But a new US study found their benefits to be limited
Iím no expert but would dare to guess that a good diet would do as much, if not more, for oneís health.

This is probably true if a person takes something because of advertising. However, there are other reasons. I take vitamins D and B12 because my doctor said I needed to. His judgment was based on blood tests. I take herbal supplements to control the side effects of necessary medications and to suppress a genetic liability. They work, and the cost is small because I learned how to fill my own capsules. Capsules are far superior to herbal teas.

In general that may be true.
Probably much of the same is true of other pharmaceuticals.

Don't underestimate the effects of supplements. In some cases there can be an effect on the body, but it isn't necessarily a good one.

Supplements can be nearly as potent as other pharmaceuticals in dealing with problems, but probably 90% of the supplements people take don't solve the problem, just like 90% of pharmaceuticals people take probably are not truly beneficial.

Because it depends so much on the specific situation, it can be hard to generalize about this sort of thing. There's not a simple statement about all this that is true.

I take a fish oil supplement recommended by my opthamologist. But, I worked with a man who took a handful of pills every morning. I went to the Harley rally at Sturgis with him and his wife one year and the first morning at breakfast they each took about 20 pills and they were trading back and forth.

I just recovered from some severe symptoms caused by a prescription drug from a angiologist. My cardiologist recommended him and he gave me four prescriptions. Two I didn't take but two I did. Then I got really sick and quit taking those two. I was sick for seven days with incredibly severe and painful diarrhea. When I recovered I took the pill I thought was the culprit and within hours the symptoms returned.

I'm not big on supplements or prescribed medications.

At 78, I'm rather looking forward to dying.

I enjoy reading about health and nutrition and I think knowledge is the key to good health, assuming you put into practice that which you have learned. I don't have any health issues and therefore don't take any medications. I take D3, B12, zinc, and iodine (the last 3 because I'm a vegan). I'm 78, I feel young and I'm looking forward to one day celebrating my 100th birthday.

I think they are talking about people that don't eat right.
Pizza and plan Burgers are not a good food source. (really, vitamins will not help this diet)

What, in your opinion, is a good diet? Is heart disease the only issue?

Well, to be honest, I haven't been on a very good diet lately. Time to make major changes. I'm going to cut out breads, flour products, and some other things. My major problem is eating what will keep my blood sugar at a good level.

Ate Popeye's last night and woke up with a blood sugar of 51. Not very good.
