It was a legal kill as man slays bear south of Santa Fe

    By Robert Nott
A Santa Fe County man shot and killed a black bear that was tearing apart a beehive in his yard late last week, and state game officials are warning residents to be aware of food sources that may attract the animals.

The incident happened near the village of Cerrillos, south of Santa Fe, sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning, said New Mexico Department of Game and Fish spokeswoman Tristanna Bickford on Monday.

It was a legal kill, she said. It was on the owners property and destroying the owners property.

She said Game and Fish officials last year had caught the same full-grown female bear after she was found eating dog food on private property.

We took it and released it in the mountains and it made its way back to Cerrillos, she said.
    Errr, OK. A repeat offender.

I have been thinking about starting a beehive, but, I did not think about this.

    Bears DO like their honey.

Which makes me think: IF we have issues with the bee population declining....why aren't forest rangers setting up beehives, in the forest???

I deal with bears on an almost daily basis, both in Colorado and Wyoming.

The bear populations are exploding. Colorado banned spring bear hunting years ago through an initiative put to ballot by antihunters. Now we live with the results of idiotic votes instead of sound game management.

Bears are beautiful, pretty intelligent animals.

They are also big as fuck PREDATORS.

The worst a Fox can do is nip you, and give you some stitches. A Bear can take your head off with one swipe......

What is so ridiculous, is that all the people who want to LIMIT the "Mean old Hunters," fail to realize that neighborhoods and strip malls do FAR more damage to such wonderful predators, than HUNTERS......

The idiots that vote for hunting bans don't usually have to live with the results. We have bears all over the place where I live.

Hell, in Tennessee, we are pretty PRO-hunting, and still....the White Tail Deer population is going gang-busters.

People fail to realize that by removing so many of their predators (Wolves, Bears, Coyotes, although, Coyotes are a problem as well..., etc.), AND clearing forests, which give them WONDERFUL grazing...we have created a near perfect environment for Deer.

While I am not a hunter, myself, I was raised by one, and, have many friends who are avid hunters.

The way I see it, it is FAR better for hunters to kill, slaughter and eat, beautiful Bambi, rather than let him starve to death, or, catch a deadly disease......
