When my maternal and paternal grandparents arrived in this country they learned English. They had to because back then immigrants were not coddled but expected to "melt" into the fabric of this nation hence the name "The Great Melting Pot" It is not the great self segregate your kind from the rest of us pot.

Only if you count soldiers who were "Irish" by virtue of having Irish grandparents or great-grandparents.

Congratulations to your grandparents. The usual process is the immigrants live in immigrant neighborhoods where every speaks whatever they speak. Their young kids, native born or immigrant, learn English and translate for their parents. The first-generation Americans will be bilingual. The grand children will speak English with a few phrases like, "I love you, Grandma," in the old language.

Immigrants are poor but they're not stupid. They leave that up to the liberals.
