My forearm skin (old old skin) does that all the time, I can even raise a horrible-looking wound with a dull fingernail. Long sleeves protect them to some extent. Sucks being old sometimes.

I did a dumb thing like that a few days ago. I was out in my shop and it was windy and cold. In a hurry to get back in the house, I went to lift my left foot on the concrete porch and didn't get enough of my foot on it. So, down on went on all fours, knees and open hands........hard. Wrists ached a bit as well as my knee caps. But nothing too serious considering how hard I hit. Then the next day my back muscles ached and did so for about 3 days. I guess somehow I jolted those muscles when I slammed down. But like you said, something you do daily, then one time it bites you.
Things happen in a second, it's stunning when they do. You're lucky you didn't break something!!! And, yeah we often hurt our backs when we fall and the back pain can really hurt.

Lol, I had several injuries in my Freshman year in college - fooling around in the dorm. Then I had to walk clear across campus to get to the Medical Center - once on an injured foot....

i was in my roof a while back repairing some loose shingles when a gust of wind blew the ladder down...

now my nearest neighbor is a couple of miles away and theres little to no traffic on the 2 dirt roads cornering my property...

after an hour or more, one truck did pass and i frantically waved at it...

the driver [country folk are very friendly] waved back and tooted the horn...but didnt stop...

another hour passes and i realize i cant just wait for somebody to pass by as it might be a day or two before another vehicle comes close.

theres a deck off the rear of my home and i had recently bought a new bbq grill that was the closest to the wall under the roof...

    so,,,what to do?

butt flop on the top of my new grill...

it broke my fall, and destroyed my grill...

i ended up bruised, cut a little and pretty sore for a few days...

i had only used the grill a couple of times...

i need a new one,,,and the i landed on is for sale...

    any takers?

Skin gets thinner. My husband asked me if I was taking aspirin and I said no, but I do take Ibuprofen for headaches and take one at bedtime as it helps me sleep. It's a blood thinner too.

I am to the point I bruise using those air dryers in the rest rooms. The force of the air is enough to bruise the backs of my hands.

Love your story Ruta and glad you weren't injured worse. Two hours waiting for someone to help you!! I was afraid you were about to jump off and that could break legs or a hip!

I have to tell you that I have a very similar story and I need to write about it sometime because my family still laughs about it...!
