Critics Accuse Ark Encounter Founder of Stealing Rainbow Colors from LGBTQ Community

It’s sad that there are people in this country who don’t know where the rainbow came from. This became obvious when Ken Ham, founder of the Ark Encounter, decided to light up the replica of Noah’s Ark with the colors of the rainbow and was accused of stealing the colors from the LGBTQ community. Other critics said it was a “sad attempt to take back the rainbow symbol from the LGBTQ community.” Some mocked the Ark saying that it made it look “incredibly gay.”

Ham defended his decision to install permanent rainbow lights at the Ark Encounter. “The Ark is lit permanently at night with a rainbow to remind the world that God owns it and He decreed it’s a sign of His covenant with man after the Flood—Christians need to take back the rainbow as we do at the Ark Encounter,” he said.

When Ham took to Twitter to post a picture of the Ark lit up in rainbow colors, encouraging Christians to take back the rainbow, mockers responded with comments like this :

Your support for the gay community means a lot Sir.

Even the gay animals shall be granted passage on the Ark. Two by two. So sayeth the Lord.

Nope. Rainbow belongs to LGBTQ’s now (and science). Deal with it Kenny.

Others posted GIFs of two men kissing, and one picture of the Ark lit up in rainbow colors was captioned with, “Greetings from God’s Big Gay Boat.” Other Tweeters took the opportunity to try to disprove the Great Flood.

The Ark was originally lit up in rainbow colors as part of a special Christmas event in 2016. At the time, Ham explained that the rainbow was a sign of the covenant that God had made with His people after the Flood. On his website “Answers in Genesis,” he also gave the passage of Scripture from Genesis 9:9-16 that discusses God’s reason for creating the rainbow.

Part of that scripture reads, “When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.”

“The rainbow stands as a poignant reminder that God keeps His promises. Despite the wickedness in the world, God has not sent another global Flood to destroy all flesh,” he wrote.

Besides urging Christians to not shy away from using the rainbow colors, he denounced the decision to light up the White House with the rainbow colors in 2015, which was done to celebrate the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to legalize gay marriage.

“But the rainbow itself wasn’t designed to be a symbol of freedom, love, pride, or the LGBTQ movement,” Ham said. “God created this beautiful, colorful phenomenon and designated it as a sign of His covenant with Noah and his descendants forever.”

Besides being the founder and president of the apologetics ministry, Answers in Genesis, Ham is also the founder of the Creation Museum located in Petersburg, Kentucky. The museum allows visitors to experience Biblical history through a variety of exhibits including a realistic Garden of Eden and a dinosaur den. The premise behind the museum is to help people believe that the Bible is not a book of fictional stories, but instead they are real life accounts of what happened after God created the earth.

The Ark Encounter exhibit opened last year in July in nearby Williamstown Kentucky, as a sister attraction to the Creation Museum. At 510-feet long and 51-feet tall, the Ark is considered the largest timber-frame structure in the world. Shortly after it opened, it didn’t take long for the evolutionists and opponents of creationism to come out. One such critic was Bill Nye, “the science guy.” Of the Great Flood Nye says it is “hogwash.”

“It’s all very troubling. You have hundreds of school kids there who have already been indoctrinated and who have been brainwashed,” said Nye when describing his tour of the Ark Encounter.

Ham took Nye’s tour as an opportunity to have an impromptu debate with the scientist and to pray with him.

On Facebook Ham said, “To me, it was so fitting that with the opening of the Ark Encounter, this massive ship is being used to witness to such a well-known personality.”

And now Ham is using the Ark to get out another message. Besides helping to confirm the truth about Noah and the Great Flood, he’s using the largest timber-frame structure in the world to take back the original intent of the rainbow.

Ya know the Sodomites have so corrupted what is good and normal.I despise them for it.They have so poisoned society that there are times when I see 2 men or 2 women together and I immediately wonder if they are homosexuals. Those kind of thoughts would never crossed my mind 20-25 years ago. They have destroyed common decency and the natural God given order of the male/female relationship. But,God will not be mocked.Vengeance is mine says the Lord,I will repay.
