Natural diamonds will fall from favor once synthetic diamonds come into their own. Lab created will soon outshine naturals. But I'd never invest in precious stones, EVER.

Synthetic diamonds have been around for 50 years - we were talking about them when I was a kid.

They haven't come into their own. Probably they won't. IIRC, it was a General Electric patented process; it made GE no money and GE itself is on the cusp of collapse.

Moissanite is the only other stone that's worthy of wearing in place of a diamond. They are beautiful, but they do have more color.

    Moissanite on top.

I think most gem jewelry is worthless because if you tried to sell it, you'd only get scrap gold price.

    Jewelry in general.

If you have money - to WASTE - then that's fine. Beyond that, who's impressed? Who looks better, a healthy late-middle-age woman in casual clothing or riding gear or gardening clothes, or covered with beads for a night out?

Maybe it's man-versus-woman, but I see the person. Seldom the clothing. I look at the face, general shape...healthy versus sickly or obese. Jewelry, to the extent I notice it, is a distraction.

Like I say...if you have it to waste, go for it. Few of us do. And for your family to later sell, when the time comes...it's well-nigh worthless. I've been through that.
