For Those Who Watch Their Sugar Intake . . .

I have had to watch my sugar because of higher than normal sugar in my blood counts. Sooo I have begun eating non sugar food which equals NO Carbs!

My wife bought some ground turkey and she made "hamburger" patties with them. I cut a nice beefsteak tomato into slices and unwrapped some nice Iceberg lettuce leaves to wrap them in. I also have no sugar ketchup which is very good unlike no salt ketchup which sucks.

Anyway, the lettuce makes a nice wrap for the burger and keep everything contained. I have to tell you, Oooo Weeee them were good! I highly recommend these for those of us that desire a good burger but need to curtail their sugar. Great for Paleo and Keto diets. The turkey has to be watched carefully so as to not overcook them. They get extremely tough if overcooked.

I'm going through the same thing RP. Got my triglycerides down from 420 to 210 just by watching carbs and sugar. I'm not supposed to have anything with white flour, which is TOUGH! My wife makes spaghetti with whole wheat pasta and ground turkey and it is killer! I don't miss the beef much at all. We have been eating a LOT of Muslim repellent food (as Hawk would say) aka pork plus chicken and turkey.

I've been doing this diet thing for about 4 months. It's hard for a guy that ate anything he wanted his entire life. This isn't a "must do" thing, it's just recommended by my doctor if I want to keep the ticker ticking.

At In-N-Out, wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun is called "Protein Style".

I don't "have to" watch carbs, though I could stand to lose 100 pounds or so. When I get a hamburger at a place like Red Robin I eat it with just one side of the bun and use a fork. At some restaurants the portion size is so large that I take half of whatever it is home and that's a second meal (and occasionally two more meals).

problem with ground poultry is when you cook it, the burger gets a very unburger like texture, tough and kind of chewy.

My last two sentences in the OP address this. It is as good as any beef burger with the right condiments. However, a great Beefsteak tomato slice about a quarter inch thick makes it so melt in your mouth yummy.

Don't overcook your turkey burgers and you wont have the problem you do with them being "unburger" like.

    Same here.

    Doctors orders from headquarters.

Now I stick my finger every morning to see my sugar count. Now around 250 to 260. Not great but better than 3 weeks ago when they hovered near 300.

Even if you don’t overcook ground poultry, it still doesn’t end up with the same feel as beef when you bite into it. It’s never a substitute for beef. Especially if you like beef not over cooked too.

So you check it yourself? Is this something prescribed? Although I would have a VERY hard time poking myself to draw blood.......which I can't stand the sight of, especially my own.

I saw a commercial yesterday with a new thing they have to check your blood sugar with some kinda scanner or something, instead of a needle prick.

I would do the research, but I'm quite lazy, lol.
