New York State is the same. I have as much of my history tied up in that region, as anywhere. The Adirondacks - with lakes so pure, you can just drink out of them. Beautiful scented pine and birch forests, with rolling hills. The Fulton Chain of Lakes, perfect for canoe trips.

Then, the whole upstate region. Home to industries - everything from GE's Appliance Division, to Franklin Motors, to Dietz and IBM and ALCO. Never heard of most of those? Because the crushing weight of incremental liberalism, drove them out or out of business.

Hooker Chemical. You laugh; but Buffalo and Niagara Falls was once a center of the petrochemical industry. What was done in Love Canal was wrong; but what the government did to industry in Buffalo in the reaction, benefited no one. Now Buffalo is probably the biggest city in America where the core ten employers are all government agencies.

But that is what liberalism does. It destroyed the places of my childhood - first New York State, and then Ohio. It destroyed Colorado; and it destroyed the beautiful, livable city that was San Francisco.
A group of us would dine out at a different SF restaurant every week. One of us, ,would stick their finger in the SF restaurant yellow pages and that is where we'd go. We did that for YEARS. Our main problem? Not just repeating any of the many restaurants that were so fine. But we never----never----had one that we said, "We will not go back there."

There was a fabulous Italian restaurant in SF; we found it by "nose" as we were walking. It became our favorite place to eat there. It had family-style dining, and the minestrone was to die for! You could have pasta for your first course (ravioli) and steak or chicken or fish for your main course. I think it was close to Chinatown, anyone remember?

Sounds like North Beach, which is just north of Chinatown (I had to peak at a map). SF had/has a thriving Italian community. The original name of Bank of America was Bank of Italy. I would not be surprised if some Italian people from SF were interned during WW2 (it's less well known, but some Italians and Germans were also interned, though not as many as were Japanese, nor quite so broadly).

You are right, it was in North Beach. Now I have to go to a map and find the exact street, and find out what it was. Thank you!
