i went to a Monkees concert once. not to see the Monkeys but the warm up act: Jimi Hendrix. i was too young to understand much about it but we left after Hendrix was done. ah yes those were the days.

Man, I can't picture Hendrix on the same ticket as the Monkees.

Odd times. Although I remember some stories when I was at Kent...some of the young faculty had done their undergrad work at Kent, also; and one had a story of an opening act for a bigger name (forget who) on the plaza at Kent.

The opening act was Bruce Springsteen. This would have been about 1969. The person telling, wrote for the campus newspaper, and got past the barricades, and asked Bruce if he'd talk for a minute for the record.

Bruce offered a two-word quote which couldn't be printed at that time.

I went to the Oakland Colliseum back in 1970 or 71 to see hard rock band Mountain (Leslie West), who was opening for soul band Sly and the Family Stone. Big mismatch musically which seemed to be somewhat common for that time. As was fairly typical for him, Sly was no where to be found after Mountain was over. They said we could have got our money back, but we saw who we intended to see. But the mostly black crowd who was there to see Sly were getting pretty restless and we jammed out of there pronto.

Leslie West (Mountain guitarist) moved n across the street from me. I look out the window, see this moving van unloading. Well, there must have been 2 dozen guitars on the driveway, and I'm thinking who the hell is this? Turns out it was ole Leslie West. (Mountain was a favorite of mine in high school).

He still plays, at least he did last year. Unfortunately he lost one leg to diabetes so sits in a wheelchair and plays now. Incredible guitarist. Here he is last year doing Mississippi Queen. He has gained a lot of weight in the past few years, now 73 years old....

Not to be harsh, but it seems like 77 is enough.

    LOL

I caught a TV episode or two and was thinking COOL!

Thing is I was busy with work, weekends and after school..... I missed my childhood.
