    America Has Massive Cheese Surplus

I have a great idea for dealing with that.
Send 2 million pounds to every country in Central and South America plus Mexico. Then, give 1 pound of each type to every family in the United States. Forget Canada. They’ve got enough of their own.
The American Dairy Coalition wrote an opinion piece for the Wisconsin State Farmer this week and said U.S. dairy farmers "are in a crisis."
"Our milk price has dropped nearly 40 percent over the last four years. Cheese exports from the U.S. to Mexico are down more than 10 percent annually and shipments to China have fallen almost 65 percent annually," the story reads.
"If this isn't bad enough, the industry faces onerous and costly dairy regulations, as well as a shortage of workers — making it hard to find a way each day to stay in business."
That will still leave a lot of cheese sitting in government cold storage but will certainly make a whole lot of grilled cheese sandwiches. Yum.

    Serve it in school lunches.

On hamburgers. Kids will love it; and they'll cheer the return of edible kid-friendly foods.

THEN...ideally, get rid of dairy price supports, which is where all this excess milk, made into cheese, comes from. Population of kids is down - and many of the parents are too stupid to feed their kids milk. So let it be...and let milk prices go where buyer and seller are happy.

I'll be a rebel here & say: Want to sell more cheese, make better cheese!

I can say that after living overseas in 2 different countries that if you compare the cheese we make with the cheese of other countrys, ours sucks. We make it the way we do because it's fast & the side benifit to being faster made is that it is tasteless compared to that produced in other countries.

And while I'm on the soap box I'll say that we also "mostly" make just a few types of cheese. Speciality cheese (different taste than most) is expensive as hell too. I've been in stores the size of a small convenence store that only sold cheese! Imagine 50 different flavors & testures of cheese because that's what's available overseas. People will pay for what they like & volume sales makes it cheaper. I've got 2 different cheese wedges in my frig right now that are imported. And by importet I am NOT talking about bought in the imported section of a local market (those suck too). I'm talking about imported by an import company from another country.

I view most cheese here in the states as having very little taste difference than the plastic wrap that it's in & that incudes even most of the expensive stuff. Have you ever put a piece of cheese in your mouth & thought OMG!? I have about 10 times with 10 different types of cheese.

Before getting off the soap box I'll say that the same thing applies to beer. All of those "good" imported beers people buy here in the states are a pale copy of the companies real beer that is sold overseas.

Our dairy farmers going out of business is nothing to make light of. We not only need their product, we need them to be able to pay their mortgages.
Okay, so people aren't drinking as much milk as they used to, and are cutting back on cheese, while going for more specialty cheeses, at the same time.

However, it's the retaliation for our tariffs and steel and aluminum that are really killing them. If our tariffs are the source of their woes, then we owe it to them to make up for it. (They were promised that, ya know.)
The U.S. Department of Agriculture had announced a $12 billion aid package to help compensate farmers hit by the trade disputes, which included cash payments for farmers of soybeans, sorghum, corn, wheat, cotton, dairy and hogs. It had already outlined the allocations for the first $6 billion at the end of August.

"The USDA's approach has resulted in only $127 million in market facilitation payments ... on one-half of our annual production," Mooney said.
Earlier this month, Perdue said the second tranche of the aid package would need to be recalculated after the updated NAFTA agreement was struck, indicating it could be less than originally planned.
If I read that right, the Ag Dept isn't living up to its promise.

Furthermore, what in the heck is up with this?: (from the OP)
"If this isn't bad enough, the industry faces onerous and costly dairy regulations, as well as a shortage of workers — making it hard to find a way each day to stay in business."

With an administration that's been busy cutting regulations, that doesn't make any sense! Why would they do that?

Plus, on the local level, it would help tremendously if dairy farmers were allowed to sell raw milk, which the general public wants. In this general area, they're either not allowed to sell it at all, or must do so at a price that cost-prohibitive to the customer.

On a last note: I never did learn what the deal was with the dairy wars going on withing the U.S.
I've only had two beers in dog years.

It is the same when you are stupid.

I don't think any Department-of-Agriculture regulations have been cut, in meaningful amounts.

If they had been, you'd have heard the propagandists in Fake Nooze screaming about it, yelling for Impeachment.
