Read what I always write, below. What's that...my signature? It's a metaphor that's a true as it gets. Play your life like an instrument. Don't just get good at it...get great at it. You'll be pleased...everybody'll be pleased.

    That'll do, that'll do.

    That about sums it up.

We all do stupid things. I avoided the tattoo parlor; but back 11 years ago, when I turned 50...I had my Johnny Paycheck moment.

I was situated well, or not-so-well. A few here knew me even back then. I had hired with Consolidated Rail (Conrail) the government-restructured Penn Central Railroad, in 1997. By that time Conrail was private for ten years, was obscenely profitable - and had just been bought by its two competitors in a Wall Street deal. The kind that gave Sears Roebuck to Kmart.

Conrail was good to work for, and they were growing and needed bodies. Yes, they grew right up to the day the deal closed and the railroad was cut into two pieces, between the Norfolk-Southern and the CSX Transportation (Former Chessie Systems). They were short and they paid great - and no problems, unlike - as I later learned - other carriers.

I made locomotive engineer one year after hiring. That was unheard of; and since then, it's now forbidden by the FRA. Have to have five years as a conductor before certification as an engineer.

CSX took over our part of Conrail. We went from good to bad to ludicrous. Pay problems - denied claims and even entire days, denied trips for "no record of this train in our database." Business lost. Layoffs. Our newish locomotive fleet got sent south, and we got junky, rusted, worn-out power. Track went to hell. Horrid derailments. New signal and radio systems that were PLAINLY not as safe as what we had. Several close calls. I could go on...

My fiftieth birthday. My mother had died a year earlier; that was one thing keeping me from making any moves. It was time.

One night I came in, and some Little Hitler of a supervisor, early 20s, Jacksonville accent (this was in Cleveland, Ohio) saying: We'hre goan fihrre y'all. Dis ain't Con-Rail no more...y'all better start toin' da line, or we'll fihrre yer asses.

They HAD just fired two of the old heads who trained me in running a train. One for speeding - two mph over, and one for insubordination - when this same clown got in his chow for getting off an engine with a coffee mug in his hand.

So. I told him: You can't fire me - I QUIT. Run your OWN goddamn train, tonight.

That was the summer of 2008. We all know what came of THAT.

So. As I sit here, healthier but economically challenged...I often thing of what might have been.

Although I think I know. Pete, a good guy and one of my trainers...he'd had some heart issues diagnosed about the time I left. Had a heart attack shortly afterward.

He's dead now. Don't k now the specifics; but he had a couple of kids in college and a house payment. He couldn't take a medical disability and couldn't retire. He was stuck, and then he was dead.

Point is...we all make choices that aren't wise. Several guys here have done prison time. I can't get too smart about that, because there were a few felonies I did in my youth, also. Not robbery and not homicide....but...felonies.

He looks like he's 'plugged in' and being 'updated' at the same time, snicker.

Just lost the spirit. Felt i was marking people forever and my heart was not in it.

Thinking about taking up painting on canvas.
I was just about to suggest that to you, probably someone already has. You seem to have the knack for 'artistry' and could do pencil or pen art, water-color, acrylic or oil painting and perhaps even sell them.

As absolutely stupid that that imbecile is for doing that to his cheek/face/teeth etc...if he is of legal age, then it is his body to do with whatever he wants, and power to him.

I shudder at the stupidity of it, but it is still just a /shrug - its his face.
The Progressives have become full blown NAZIs, to thwart a Hitler that doesn't exist...since that is the only way they can express, and self justify, their fascism.

I wonder how long it'll take for those people to regret what they've done?

Like when they get older and the skin starts to wrinkle and sag... what a sight that's gonna be.

    Foreign country plugs.

I already said , how does he swim, eat and drink. How does he wash his hair or face without eating soap? Maybe he has a drain plug to seal up for things like that.

If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration. Nicola Tesla

MLK jr. "I am not saying that there is a conscious move toward socialism, not even by labor, the move is certainly unconscious. But there is a definite move away from capitalism, whether we conceive of it as conscious or unconscious Capitalism finds herself like a losing football team in the last quarter trying all types of tactics to survive."
