    another problem is the danger of hacking. The people that write the software never ever test the bloody code sufficiently, so at some point some 13 year old korean Wow player will take control of all of New York or Londons AV's and bring the city to a standstill, until hes paid 500 bitcoins.

    The biggest danger to this, is that the sheeple are apparently willing to accept it.

    A solution to a non-problem which creates dozens of much-more serious problems.

    Well, we can always look to John McClane to save us if that happens.

    Will driverless cars ever be acceptable? An early sci fi theme was being able to see the person you were speaking to on the telephone. It was said when a rudimentary system was unveiled that no one would want them because it would affect their privacy. Well, now we have Skype and other systems that allows just that and its hardily embraced by one and all.

    We could end up with no personal automobiles allowed and we all are forced into "Johnny Cabs"

    Yes, you confirm something ive repeated several times here, and had to defend - nothing has ever provedto be 'impossible', and science fiction has a repeated habit of coming true, because most science fiction is written by visionaries and Blue Sky Thinkers like Issac Asimov. In another post I listed 10 bits of Star Trek technology that were now reality or in the process of becomign reality.

    Other than predictable, fair-weather vehicles, dont see how they can fully replace ppl!!!

    Driving rain, snow, ice etc. seems would make them unsafe..

    Any kind of situation not addressed in the algorithm, will make them unsafe. And will show up only once the error in coding is demonstrated.

    Ever wonder why trucks took over most freight business from the railroads? While the railroads are twenty-times more efficient in fuel use, and a hundred-times more so in manpower?

    Flexibility. A truck driver can deal with road closures, weather, unusual circumstances...changes in plans, cancellations of delivery.

    A vehicle on tracks, carrying hundreds of shipments for dozens of receivers, cannot.

    Auto-driving trucks, likewise, will not be able to do so. This is SO obviously the iceberg's top, of some sort of agenda...cooked up by a small cadre of geeks; and thus embraced by some plutocrats and totalitarian wannabees. So they're gonna push and push and PUSH, and damn the body counts! FORWARD.

    So they can cut off all commerce; cut off trade and shipments and transport to regions, as is politically expedient.
