    Problems For Putin

The Russian Navy’s largest floating drydock sank and nearly took their only (ski-ramp) aircraft carrier with it. This really fouls up Russian naval operations.

Floating drydocks are not particularly sexy, but naval operations revolve around them.

PD-50 is sunk in 160 feet of water. It is highly unlikely it can be raised intact. Finding a replacement will be tough.

If the Russians can't get the little things right - like keeping their ships repaired - is it a good idea to over-rate their armed forces?

Putin's navy doesn't look so fearsome, does it. Completely befuddled by 1930s technology.

It might take years to make up for the loss of PD-50.

With no way to maintain big ships, they’ll have to emphasize smaller, less capable ships.

Maybe the PI can rent Putin the unused graving docks at Subic Bay. Of course after three decades of neglect they probably don’t work, either.

So now their rust-bucket carrier can’t complete its refit.

Without their nukes, Russia is at most a regional power.
