Who said anything about free. Currently about 62% of people of working age are working. In a fully automated society that number will drop dramatically. Maybe even to under 50%. That means a lot of people are going to need a basic income to survive.

None, Californians don't screw in light bulbs, they screw in hot tubs.

Robert you need to read the book Connections by James Burke. It shows how all advancements produce other advancements. New developments arise from the old, new skills are learned, new products come on the market. You should not fear the future as much as you do.

I do not fear the future. I spent a lot of my life selling and servicing accounting software. A major sales pitch was always you'll be able to cut your accounting staff and save money.

New technology will spur new technology that doesn't mean it will spur jobs. Robot factories will build automated teller machines.

People will have to work less and that is a good thing.
