I just buy a frozen package of mixed berries and use them, it is delicious. Like i mentioned, it is a nice change of pace from strawberries only.

I do not like berries that have the unripened white parts still on them. When Publix starts selling them at 3 for $4 or so, then you know the ripe berries have arrived. The idea of "pushing" fruit and veggies to ripen faster by chemical or other processes has taken all the flavors away. You can't buy a great tasting tomato in Florida anymore from stores that is.
I used to have a little doomed flea market close to my house that had real tomatoes all summer long, but it closed this past year The vine ripened tomatoes, the ones still on the vine, are better than the loose tomatoes, but they still leave a lot to be desired.

I am buying my strawberries at walmart for 2 dollars a pound. They are under ripe, so I leave them out for a day or two and then have to eat them or freeze them. Leaving them out anymore than a couple days and they start to mold. But it works out, the ones I don't eat I freeze and then use for making smoothies.

I used to eat Strawberry shortcake as a kid. We had it every single year at the beginning of summer. I got out of the habit once I went into the military. Now my wife is (very as in ER) allergic to strawberries. So now I only uses them to threaten as in "Are you in the mood or would you like some strawberries?". Honestly I like them better now than when I used to eat them. (wink).
