And before you get on me about police...why don't you post a positive cop story and ignore these threads? Be positive! Support your local police.

back to the story...

This is an example of the citizen spy culture taking root in the United States with the “If you see something, say something” program encouraged by The Department of Homeland Security. Apparently, a neighbor made a 911 call after he mistakenly interpreted a man simply sitting on a porch as a “drunk with a gun.” Officers arrived, ready for battle, and the man just sitting on the porch was shot dead.

when could you discharge your firearm in Iraq, a war zone, with terrorists and stuff? I just find it interesting that here in the US we are not at war with each other but police are allowed to show less restraint than soldiers and marines at war.

Now, Mike...beat me up. I'm such a cop hater.

As long as they abide by the very laws they enforce and behave with some semblance of sentient thought, I will support them, until then, it is withdrawn.

I heard about this one, frankly it is bogus. I saw the "supposed gun". No. This was trigger happy goons looking for a chance to pump metal into an individual. Several weapons were trained on him. And frankly, these idiots are lucky nobody else was hurt. Didn't even think about their back stop, let alone train non-lethal munitions, or even attempt to talk him down.

They should all be charged for 2nd degree murder.

In theory, anytime - provided that escalation of force was accounted for. For example, if I saw something suspicious driving towards chow hall, I could unload on that truck if I felt they were a danger - particularly if they ignored challenge and pass and sped up to get away or approach. I could light that thing up to my hearts content. There is accountability, but it is largely circumstantial. A guy in my platoon fire warning shots for a vehicle getting too close to him but the ricochet hit the driver - he was cleared of wrong doing because he follow EOF to the book. Turns out the guy that got hit was just old, and couldn't see well on the road. He lived but I don't know the extent of his injuries.

If MP's did what happened here - heads would roll. They would be mounted on commands desk on pikes.

We had to be 100% certain towards the end there that the person was a danger to us. Close to the beginning you could get away with a lot more. Later we had to meet force with equal force only.

This is just sickening. Is there anything these monsters won't do?
