I listen to such dark, heavy, scary, spooky stuff, I have to start including something that will put me in a brighter mood, but not suck at the same time.

In my explorations of Industrial music--most of which is nihilistic and danceably suicidal--I came across this great exception, which is really growing on me the more I listen to them. They deliberately write music that is NOT soul-crushing and nihilistic, but the opposite.

When I put this song on for the first time I ended up putting it on a 45 minute loop and by the end of it I was bounding 4 feet off the ground, I was feeling so damn good. It almost had me in tears, but good tears, not sad ones. I decided to make it my keynote song of 2014, and to live by it.

I'll include the lyrics, because the lyrics are part of its special positive magic:

"Resolution"

No pride to feel, no waiting country.
No parades to line your way
Though your hands may bleed, and your body may lie broken
Every storm must soon give away.

Raise your head up high [x2]
So the heavens hear you cry
light the brightest fire
from the highest mountain
so the whole world knows, that your spirit can't be broken.

The rage you feel, will consume you and destroy you
let this rage inside you die.
One day, youŽll find the signs in every motion
close your eyes so you might see
I will hold you still, every second of every hour.
Let your actions speak your will.

Raise your head up high [x2]
So the heavens hear you cry
light the brightest fire
from the highest mountain
so the whole world knows, that your spirit can't be broken.

Give up your fear,
these senseless longings.
Let this pain inside you die.

Raise your head up high [x2]
So the heavens hear you cry
light the brightest fire
from the highest mountain
so the whole world knows, that your spirit can't be broken.
